2010 Conference June 17–20 Portland, Oregon
Theme: Many Shades of Green
Transportation
Note: Conference shuttle schedule is here.
If you want to get around in Portland, the TriMet bus, light rail, and streetcar transportation system is highly convenient: just start at the
TriMet home page to plan your trip. TriMet has regular connections to Lewis & Clark College, but they require several transfers, so as a part of the conference we will provide
free shuttle transportation between our
downtown Portland conference hotels and Lewis & Clark to all
registered participants.
The MAX light rail line is the most efficient way to get from the PDX airport to downtown Portland; the MAX Red Line has a stop conveniently located just adjacent to the terminal. For the Hotel Deluxe, take the Red Line towards the City Center, get off at the PGE Park stop, walk back down SE Morrison St, and take a right on SE 15th. For the Hotel Lucia, take the Red Line towards the City Center, get off at the Pioneer Courthouse Square stop, and walk north on Broadway a few blocks to SE Stark. A 2-hour fare is $2.30 ($1.50 for kids), while a good-all-day fare is $4.75 (for both adults and kids). The MAX rail system, for which downtown Portland serves as hub, also runs to North Portland, to the South Waterfront/Portland State University area, and to Beaverton and the western suburbs.
The Portland Streetcar is a great way to get around in downtown Portland (though not to/from Lewis & Clark), with a route that loops through the city’s core bounded by Portland State University to the south and the Pearl District to the north; the Streetcar’s route passes within walking distance of the Hotel Deluxe and Hotel Lucia. Streetcar fares are valid for all-day travel ($2.00 for adults, $1.50 for kids), and no fare is required for travel within the “fareless square” area. More information can be found on the Streetcar
website.
The shuttle schedule between Lewis & Clark campus and our downtown Portland
conference accommodations -- which will offer transportation from Thursday morning through Sunday afternoon -- can be found
here.
If you decide to rent your own car, there is parking on campus and fees are not enforced in summer. Conference participants may park in any official parking spaces on the Lewis and Clark campus not restricted by signage. Drivers commuting to conference events during the day may wish to park near the Templeton Student Center or in the Fir Acres lot near JR Howard Hall; participants who will be staying overnight in dorms may want to park near the residence halls. A map of the Lewis and Clark College campus (including all conference venues) may be downloaded
here. For information on on-campus parking,
see here.
Taxi service from PDX airport to downtown Portland will run around $37.00 (gratuity included); service from downtown Portland to the Lewis & Clark College campus will run around $23.00 (gratuity included). Here are a few of the leading area taxicab providers:
